Ivar's Corner

Hi and welcome to my corner!Ivar Jacobson

This is the area of the site I get to play and say the things I want to. Over the years, so many friends recommended that I have my own web site. People have asked for all kinds of things, when I thought about them, they fell into the following sections.

Whilst you are here, need some help with UML? why not chat to CyberIvar.

Why not visit my blog, I will keep you up to date with my latest thinking.

Books

You can find most of my books using this link, we also have a page on our main site covering the key books written by people in the company.

Technical Questions

Most questions have been of technical nature. Many of these questions are not specific in nature but probably interesting to many more people. This is where I will express my opinion on all kinds of technical issues. Business modeling, use cases, architecture, analysis, design, etc. Also on software reuse, aspect-oriented software development, software process, active or executing process, agent-based technology, etc.  More>>

Historical Questions

Some questions are 'archeological'. A question I have got many times is how more than thirty years ago I came up with the idea of components. Was there a moment of light in the sky? Similar questions have come regarding use cases, the three stereotypes in analysis, etc. And I have replied to these same questions many times. On this site I will gather answers to many similar questions and structure them in different areas. It will require some work to go through my old emails and extract my answers and improve them, but I will do so. It will be fun. More>>

Presentations

More immediate is the need to make my presentations available. In the past I have developed two new presentations every year, but had a set of about five updated presentations available. Many questions have been just that: “Please, send me your presentation at OOPSLA three years ago.” So I hope this will help. Here you will also find my CV. More>>

Published Papers

Also, people ask for electronic versions of my papers. You can get them in this section. More>>

Early Works

Less frequent, but still happening every couple of months is that someone asks for my early works. My Ph D thesis which has been and still is my pathfinder for the future. Much of the work I have been doing over the last fifteen years was indicated in a formal way in the thesis. And this requires more effort. So far I have had to make a hard copy and send with snail mail. This way, I will have it available on the web and maybe more people will be able to get something out of this work. We will see. Interesting Stories

Finally, and this is more for fun, I have numerous anectdotes gathered over the years. People have asked me to write them down for all these years. For instance, how close Apple was to buy Ericsson Information Systems. The talk I gave when joining Grady and Jim about how the three of us was able to work together thanks to a new methodology. There are hundreds of these stories, many of them funny, others very interesting. So I hope this part that will grow over the years as I remember things. It will be fun to do. Hopefully some of you will like it as well.  More>>
