Latest news

We were very lucky recently to have Dr Jacobson visit our shores here in Australia. Ivar had a packed schedule speaking at seminars and visiting companies in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Ivar Jacobson International sponsored a 2 day IT Business Leaders Forum held in Sydney. Ivar was a guest speaker along with CIOs and Directors from Google, Jetstar, Harrods and Insurance Australian Group to name a few. The seminar enabled delegates to hear a variety of industry experts offer case studies and experiences ranging from the future of mobile computing, delivering agile IT services with SOA and enabling convergence. Ivar's presentation "Getting Good Software Quickly and at Low Cost" was extremely popular. It covered our practice based approach and how to overcome barriers to process improvement and organisational change. Ivar presented a similar message at a breakfast seminar arranged with ANZ, and at special presentations to the Sydney and Melbourne Australian Computer Society chapters.

Other Information

Dr Ivar Jacobson previously visited Australia in late May 2007, to keynote at seminars hosted in Sydney and Melbourne by IBM®. Dr Jacobson shared his vision on next generation software processes, showcasing Essential Unified ProcessTM and EssWorksTM. "Essential Unified Process will change the way organizations use software processes today," says Dr Jacobson, referring to several paradigm shifts that distinguish next-generation processes from their static predecessors.

  • Next-generation processes consist of separate, independent practices. Today's monolithic processes make it difficult to adopt them incrementally or combine practices from a variety of sources.
  • Next-generation processes are presented in a radically different way. "People don't link to read pages and pages of boring text," Dr Jacobson explains. A refreshing newuser experience based on cards and games makes practices easy and fun to learn and apply.

The Essential Unified Process supports a wide variety of projects by combining and building on the strength of the Unified Process community, the agile methods and the process maturity frameworks. Organizations can start with what they already have in place, and only add the practices they need on top of their existing practices, reducing the cost of change.
