What is the most important thing to get right when developing a new software system. You may think this a "stupid" question. You cannot just ask that one question, you say. However, if I had to answer it--and I had to pick only one answer, I would say "Architecture." Then I would try to amplify that one-word answer.

 

"You cannot get the right architecture if you don't look at what use cases to provide,” I would say. "You cannot get the right architecture if you don't consider the technology that is available." And so on through quite a list of considerations.

 

I would just have to say that getting the right architecture assumes all those things. Because it does, architecture is the most important thing to get right!
