The Reframing of Use Cases
We are leading an industry initiative to reframe the understanding and application of use cases and are looking to expand our network of training partners.
Ivar Jacobson and Alistair Cockburn have been working to explain why modern use cases fill the vacuum left by other popular techniques such as user stories, story maps, value streams, customer journeys, etc. The initiative started with an ACM Queue article ‘Use Cases are Essential’ and led to a unifying paper, the ‘Use Case Foundation’ that provides a rallying cry for all those who evangelize for and promote use cases, and unifies the previously slightly different approaches advocated by Ivar and Alistair. A linked-in group has hastily formed around this seminal work ‘Reframing Use Cases’ and work has now commenced to explore the integration of use cases with four other popular industry techniques:
All this activity has led to an increase in interest in the technique and people wanting to learn about it. We are seeking to partner with expert trainers to help us hugely increase the number of requirements engineers and business analysts who apply Use Cases as their go to approach. Training Partners get access to IJI intellectual property and can use the IJI brand and provenance to attract students and organizations. We support partners using our platforms to widen reach and attract students. Courses provide student certifications with an online examination platform to ensure quality.
What does it take?
- Practical experience in helping teams and organizations leverage a use case (or complementary) approach
- A proven track record of training students in use cases or similar techniques
- Prepared to take our latest course offering (to get up to date with our latest Use Case 3.0 thinking), Master Modern Use Cases
- Pass the Master Modern Use Cases course exam
- Interview with one of our Use Case expert trainers
- Sign-up to our simple Partner Agreement and agree to our annual partner fee (details on application).
